flexible adhesive to form a continuous bond along the entire length of the pad. The nonabsorbent Side of the abdominal pad shall permanently and legibly be identified by use of a commercially acceptable color, either adhesive or thread, firmly attached to the outer nonwoven fabric. The color shall not bleed or run when steam sterilized. Weight of the nonabsorbent backing for the Size B pad shall be 2.0 to 4.9 grams. Weight of the nonabsorbent backing for the Size D pad shall be 5.4 to 12.4 grams. The minimum weight of the finished Size B pad shall be 17 grams and the minimum weight of the finished size D pad shall be 43 grams.
Nonwoven fabric. The nonwoven fabric shall be absorbent, white, nonwoven fabric which is all cotton, all rayon, a mixture of cotton and rayon plus a binder, or a rayon and polyester blend. The fabric shall have a nonwoven construction of adequate porosity to permit penetration of fluid and shall weight no less than 150 grains per square yard. The fabric shall be free of acid, alkali, starch or dyes. When tested in accordance with Absorbent Gauze, U.S.P., the water soluble substances of the fabric shall not exceed 0.75% and the ignited residue of the water extract shall not exceed 0.20%. The fatty matter shall not exceed 0.7% and ash not exceed 3.5%. The nonwoven fabrics shall be rapid -Wicking and shall be Capable of preventing linting of inner contents.
Absorbent fibers. The absorbent fibers shall be fully bleached, White, and substantially free from lumps, oil spots, dirt and other foreign material. Fibers shall absorb no less than 16 times its weight of water and shall completely submerge in 15 seconds when tested in accordance with Verified Cotton, USP. Absorbent fibers shall meet Purified Cotton, USP, requirements for alkalinity, acidity and dyes. Water soluble substances shall not exceed it, and the ash shall not exceed. 3%. Absorbent fibers shall be made from purified new or reworked cotton (i.e. Cambers or cardstrip); or cotton linters; or rayon; or cotton or rayon reworked from clean yarn threads or fabric; or mixtures of these types. Fibers may also be made of mixture of bleached rayon, polyester and cotton.
