COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
STOCKINET, SURGICAL (COTTON, 25 YARDS, ROLLED)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Type I Sizes 3, 4, 6 and 10 inches wide Stockinet of Federal Specification JJ-S-746A.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be surgical stockinet suitable for use in the treatment of fracture and wounds. The stockinet shall be 25 yards long, rolled, and shall not contain more than two pieces neither of which shall be less than 3 yards in length. The stockinet shall be of the following sizes, weights, and courses.

The stockinet shall be seamless rib knit in a circular or continuous tube of fabric from unbleached (natural color) or bleached, carded all cotton yarn. The yarn shall be spun using a knitting twist and shall be clean. The stockinet shall have a minimum of 16 ribs (wales) per inch. the stockinet shall have an elongation in its width direction of 300+25/-10 percent when tested in accordance with method 5100 of Federal Test Method Standard No. 191 with the distance between the jaws one inch at the start and the elongation taken just before failure. The stockinet shall be free from loose ends, stains, holes and slubby yarn more than three times normal diameter and the stockinet shall be clean.
