SPLINT, ORTHOPEDIC SHEET
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a thermoplastic, perforated sheet material for use in fabrication of splints and cylindrical casts for immobilization purposes.
Salient characteristics.
Shall be a thermoplastic splint sheet material 24 inches wide by 36 inches long suitable for use in fabrication of orthopedic splints and cylindrical casts for immobilization purposes. Sheet shall have a perforated design.
Shall be comfortable, low temperature (160° to 180°F) thermoplastic material which can be cut or molded into any form or shape and will adhere to itself. Shall be suitable for riveting, strapping, bonding or can be hinged to suit needs of splint.
The sheet shall have the following physical properties:
At least 1000 psi tensile strength at break.
At least 300 to 500 percent elongation at break.
At least 70,000 to 100,000 flexural modulus.
Shall show a minimum 7500 flexures with a 1 cm amplitude in a flex-life test before complete failure.
Material shall be non-irritating to the skin.
Instructions for use shall be furnished with each package.
Workmanship. The splint shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). one package containing two splint sheets, as specified, constitutes one unit.
