For the fabric backing, the thread count per inch and the weight per square yard shall be in the relaxed condition. The number of threads per inch shall be in accordance with Federal Test Method Standard No. 191, method 5050 except the average of the results obtained from three places on each sample roll shall be the thread count for the sample roll.
The adhesive on the fabric backing shall be pressure-sensitive, spread on one side of the fabric and shall be a smooth homogeneous blend of new natural and synthetic rubber, plasticizers, filler and resins. The color of the adhesive mass shall be ivory or off-white. The adhesive coating on the roll shall be uniformly applied, substantially free of breaks and shall not be toxic or irritating to the skin. The feather edges of the leno-edged material shall be free of adhesive.
The minimum weight of the adhesive mass shall be 145 gm/m2 and shall be determined in the following manner:
Weigh a specimen of the finished bandage to the nearest thousandth of a gram. Remove all of the adhesive mass from the sample with a suitable solvent. Dry, then reweigh sample. The difference between the two weighings is the weight of adhesive mass of the sample. Convert this weight to gm/m2.
The adhesive quality (adhesion) shall be a minimum average of 1 lb when tested in accordance with the Shear Adhesive Strength Test of Adhesive Tape U.S.P. The adhesive quality test result shall be the average of the results obtained from not less than 3 specimens from-different sample rolls.

Type II:
The bandage shall be a roll of elastic adhesive bandage suitable for securing large bulky wound dressings and for binding where pressure is required.
