COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BANDAGE, GAUZE (TWO-PLY)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a sterile, roller-type, elastic gauze bandage, suitable for medical use.
Salient Characteristics:
The bandage shall be a sterile, roller-type, two-ply elastic (stretchable), conformable, self adhering gauze bandage, 5 yards minimum length in the stretched condition, suitable for medical use and for securing dressings in place and for bandaging bony prominences.
The finished (treated) gauze shall meet the requirements of Absorbent Gauze, USP, except for thread count and weight and except that water extract shall not exceed 28 mg and except that the gauze shall be all cotton. The gauze shall have undergone treatment causing it to shrink and have an excess crimp in the warp direction or in the warp and fill directions. The finished gauze shall have a minimum of 12 in yarns per inch in the fill and a minimum of 14 yarns per inch in the warp direction with the gauze in the relaxed condition. The weight of the finished gauze in the relaxed condition shall range from 20 to 25 grams per square meter. The length of the unstretched bandage shall be a minimum of 120 inches long.
The bandage shall be made by folding the treated gauze to ply by turning the lateral edges inwardly toward each other to an abutting position at approximately the center line of the bandage. The folded gauze shall be rolled with the folded edges to the outside of the roll. The edges of the rolled bandage shall be uniformly aligned. The gauze shall not be stretched in the roll, but shall be wound under sufficient tension to keep the roll from gapping.
