COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ADHESIVE PAD, COLOSTOMY-ILEOSTOMY-TRACHEOSTOMY
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a skin barrier for ostomy patients.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a 4 by 4 inch adhesive pad suitable for use as a skin barrier for ostomy patients. The ostomy pad shall protect the skin against the irritating and excoriating properties of intestinal effluent, urine and exudates. The pads outer surface shall be a continuous layer of polyethylene film onto which a collecting pouch shall be capable of being anchored. The pad shall resist erosion by effluent, urine, and exudates, shall be fabricated of the hydrocolloids gelatin, pectin, and carboxymethylcellulose, and shall be easily cut to conform to body anatomy. The pad shall be flexible and shall remain in place while bathing and showering.
The adhesive shall be non-irritating and nonsensitizing to skin and shall adhere well to both moist and dry skin. An easily removable facing shall cover the adhesive.
The pad shall be suitable for use for applying to the skin around the stoma or around a fistula.
Expiration dating period. Not less than 54 months of the expiration dating period shall remain at the time of delivery to the Government.
Testing and examination shall be conducted to determine compliance with all specification requirements. Test methods shall be suitable, accurate and reproducible.
Workmanship. The ostomy adhesive pad shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance, or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing 5 pads, each individually packaged in peel-open package, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify and maintain substantiating evidence that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this Commercial Item Description, and that the product conforms to the producers’ own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
