COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PAD, PETROLATUM AND BISMUTH TRIBROMOPHENATE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description describes a petrolatum bismuth tribromophenate impregnated pad suitable for medical and surgical use.
Salient characteristics. Pad, Petrolatum and Bismuth Tribromophenate Impregnated, shall be a sterile 3 percent Bismuth Tribromophenate and Petrolatum blend impregnated gauze dressing, suitable for medical and surgical use.
The gauze shall comply with the requirements of the USP, Type I.
The impregnated gauze shall be subjected to a suitable sterilization process which shall render the gauze sterile. The gauze shall contain not less than 2.5 percent and not more than 4.3 percent bismuth tribromophenate in a petrolatum blend when determined by a suitable, accurate and reproducible method.
The blended mixture of bismuth tribromophenate in petrolatum shall be evenly and uniformly distributed throughout the gauze. The mixture of bismuth tribromophenate and petrolatum shall have a melting range of not less than 1000F (380C) and not more than 1400F (600C) and a consistency of not less than 150 and not more than 240 when tested using USP methods in the monograph for White Petrolatum, USP.
All ingredients used in the manufacture of the product shall be in accordance with the tests, standards and requirements of the USP/NP including any supplements or revisions thereto, or if not included in this compendium, they shall be of the highest pharmaceutical grade suitable for use in the manufacture of the product.
Testing and examination shall be conducted to determine compliance with all requirements of this document.
