COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ADHESIVE TAPE, SURGICAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers an adhesive tape for hospital/patient use and is generally designed for dressing applications where strength is needed for strapping and pressure dressings, and where skin moisture would loosen other tapes.
Salient characteristics: Adhesive Tape, Surgical, white, rayon taffeta backing, with hypoallergenic adhesive mass, porous construction, with peel adhesion of 9 to 15 oz per inch (255.14 to 340.19g) when tested according to “Pressure Sensitive Tape Council Test Method #1, adhesion to steel”, for use on the diaphoretic patient, radiotransparent, uncut roll 10 yards long (9.14m), can be easily torn without need for scissors, and allows painless removal, stays firmly in place even when wet.
The adhesive tape shall not cause adverse reactions with human skin, either physically or chemically.

Contractor certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to the first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Regulatory requirements.
Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act- If the product covered by this document has been determined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to be under its jurisdiction, the offeror/contractor shall comply, and be responsible for compliance by its subcontractors/ suppliers, with the requirements of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, as amended, and regulations promulgated thereunder, In addition, the offeror/contractor shall comply, and be responsible for compliance by its subcontractors/suppliers, with the requirements of all other applicable Federal, State, and local statutes, ordinances, and regulations.
