COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BANDAGE, GAUZE, CALAMINE-GELATIN-GLYCERIN-ZINC OXIDE IMPREGNATED
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description describes a calamine-gelatin-glycerin-zinc oxide impregnated gauze bandage.
Salient characteristics. Bandage, Gauze, Calamine-Gelatin-Glycerin-Zinc Oxide Impregnated, nominal 4 inches wide by 10 yards long (10.16 cm by 9.14m), shall have a nominal weight of 30 grams, rolled, white, gauze 100% cotton, may have woven edge or looped edge shall be impregnated with not less than 175 grams and not more than 230 grams of calamine-gelatin- glycerin-zinc oxide containing paste, per roll. Zinc oxide content shall be not less than 3.5% and not more than 10.1% (w/w) of the calamine-gelatin-glycerin-zinc-oxide impregnated gauze bandage.
Microbial limit- bandage shall contain not more than 50 aerobic spore-forming organisms when tested using U.S.P. microbial limit test.
The finished product shall contain suitable preservatives.
Moisture- the bandage shall have a sufficient moisture for smooth application and shall adhere to the area being wrapped and to itself when allowed to dry.
There must be less than 100 colony forming units per gram; there must be no pathogens and no coliforms.
Workmanship. The material and its containers shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability. All ingredients entering into the finished product shall be of a pharmaceutical grade.
