COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PADS, ISOPROPYL RUBBING ALCOHOL IMPREGNATED
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-P-36792.
This commercial item description covers a rubbing alc6h01 saturated pad. The pad is for use as a "prep" or wipe or local anti-infective on skin.
Salient characteristics. Pads, Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol Impregnated, shall be a fabric pad saturated with a sufficient amount of sterile Isopropyl rubbing alcohol, USP, individually packaged. Not more than 4 months shall have elapsed from the date of manufacture of this product to the date of delivery to the Government.
Package is to be hermetically sealed to prevent leakage. This leakproof seal is to insure a shelf life of about three years. The alcohol-proof printing on the package should list contents.
Size:
1. Not smaller than 25 mm by 29 mm (1 inch by 1-1/8 - inches) (plus 3 mm (1/8 inch) minus zero), a minimum of .5 ml of alcohol.
2. Not smaller than 44 mm by 44 mm (1-3/4 inches by 1-3/4 inches) (plus 2 mm (1/16 inch) minus zero), a minimum of 1.7 ml of alcohol.
3. The finished pad shall be either a single thickness of material or shall be folded to a double thickness of material. The finished pad shall be 35 mm (1-3/8 inches) wide (plus or minus 10 mm (3/8 inch) by 51 mm (2 inches long (plus or minus 16 mm (5/8 inch)). The fabric pad shall be fabricated from a single piece (one thickness or folded double) of suitable, non-toxic, non-irritating, absorbent material, and the dry pad shall weigh not less than 0.106 gram. The pad shall contain a minimum of 0.40 grams of alcohol.
Each impregnated pad shall be packaged and sealed in a foil-plastic laminate material that will preclude evaporation of the alcohol until manually opened.
