COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ROLL, COTTON TAPE, (RADIOPAQUE)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-R-36869 which is cancelled.
Salient Characteristics:
Shall be radiopaque cotton tape rolls suitable for use as an appendix sponge in blunt dissection. The fabric shall be bleached cotton tape of Heringbone Twill Weave having a minimum thread count of 52 by 38 threads per inch. The 9/16 inch wide material shall weigh a minimum of 1.75 grams per linear yard and both edges shall be selvaged.
The radiopaque filament shall be fabricated of plastic material and shall be impregnated with an inert nontoxic substance which is opaque to x-rays and capable of withstanding sterilization by live steam at a temperature of 250°F for one hour without bleeding and without sign of deterioration. The finished filament shall be 0.022 to 0.033 inches in diameter.
The tape shall be a minimum of 3-1/8 inches long. The radiopaque filament shall be a minimum of 5/8 inch long, except when the radiopaque filament is placed in the width direction of the tape in which case the filament shall be 3/8 to 7/16 inch long and shall not extend beyond the edges of the tape.
The tape shall be tightly and evenly rolled with the radiopaque monofilament so placed as to be visible in a radiograph. The filament shall be visible through one layer of tape covering the filament. No cut ends of the tape shall be exposed. The outer end of the tape shall be folded in and secured by tread along the entire length of the roll
