COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
GAUZE, ABSORBENT, IODOFORM IMPREGNATED

This Commercial Item Description covers Iodoform Impreganted Gauze.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be sterile, Iodoform impregnated, absorbent gauze packing strips.
For size 1, shall be suitable for use in oral surgery, surgery of the nose and sinuses, nasal hemostasis, etc., and as drainage wicks in the treatment of boils, abcesses, fistulas and other draining wounds. The gauze shall be approximately ½ inch wide by 5 yards long and shall be of plain ribbon loom weave. In addition, the gauze shall be fabricated of bleached cotton gauze, having a nominal thread count of 30 per full width in the warp direction and 56 per inch in the filling direction.
For size 2, shall be suitable for use in oral surgery of the nose and sinuses, nasal hemostasis, etc., and as drainage wicks in the treatment of boils, abcesses, fistulas and other draining wounds. The gauze shall be approximately 1 inch wide by 5 yards long and shall be of plain ribbon loom weave. In addition, the gauze shall be fabricated of bleached cotton gauze, having a nominal thread count of 52 per full width in the warp direction and 56 per inch in the filling direction.
For size 3, shall be suitable for use in hemostatic packing, in gynecological surgery and as an antiseptic dressing. The gauze shall be approximately 2 inches wide by 5 yards long and shall be of plain ribbon loom weave. In addition, the gauze shall be fabricated of bleached cotton gauze, having a nominal thread count of 96 per full width in the warp direction and 56 per inch in the filling direction.
For size 4, shall be suitable for use in oral surgery, surgery of the nose and sinuses, nasal hemostasis, etc., and as drainage wicks in the treatment of boils, abcesses, fistulas and other draining wounds. The gauze shall be approximately 1/4 inch wide by 5 yards long and shall be of plain ribbon loom weave. In addition, the gauze shall be fabricated of bleached cotton gauze, having a nominal thread count of 22 per full width in the warp direction and 56 per inch in the filling direction.
For size 1, 2, 3, and 4, the gauze shall have selvage edges, be free from loose threads and ravelings and be of one continuous piece. The gauze shall comply with the following USP requirements for Absorbent Gauze:
Ignited Residue, Acid or Alkali and Dextrin or Starch in water extract except the limits of the weight of the residue shall not exceed 0.50 percent and the limits of ignited residue shall not exceed 0.15 percent.
Residue on Ignition except the limits shall not exceed 0.50 percent.
