COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
APPLICATOR, POVIDONE-IODINE IMPREGNATED
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-A-37382 which is cancelled.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a disposable rayon or cotton tipped applicator with a povidone-iodine solution impregnated tip, suitable for applying the solution to hard-to-reach areas including folds and creases, for use in preparing skin areas prior to injections, aspirations, surgery, catheterization, disinfecting wounds, pre-operative oral degerming, and preparing for dressing changes.
All ingredients shall of a pharmaceutical grade.
The applicator rod shall be 4-1/8 inches long, ± 3/8 inch and 1/8 inch in diameter. Shall be made of a suitable material sufficiently flexible for the purpose.
The tip shall be cotton or rayon.
The impregnating solution shall be Povidone-Iodine Solution, USP, 10 percent.
Type I – Packaged 1 each per sealed packet. Each packet shall contain a minimum of 1.8 mil povidone-iodine solution.
Type II – Packaged 2 each per sealed packet. Each packet shall contain a minimum of 5.4 mil povidone-iodine solution.
Type III – Packaged 3 each per sealed packet. Each packet shall contain a minimum of 5.5 mil povidone-iodine solution.
