PADDING, CAST, SYNTHETIC, Porous, Non-woven
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
Salient characteristics:
This commercial item description covers a synthetic, non-woven bandage suitable for use as padding between an injured extremity and a resin impregnated fiberglass orthopedic cast. The padding shall be furnished in the following nominal sizes, as specified.
Size 1 – 2 inches by 4 yards.
Size 2 – 3 inches by 4 yards.
Size 3 – 4 inches by 4 yards.
Size 4 – 6 inches by 4 yards.
Material. the padding shall be polyester non-woven bandage and shall be neatly rolled in one continuous length. The polyester fibers shall be entangled to maintain a suitable shape providing cushioning and protection for the skin and bony prominence.
The padding shall be self-adhering and capable of conforming to anatomical contours without slipping or rolling up. The padding shall be porous enough to allow the skin to breathe and reduce the potential for skin maceration or dermatitis. The padding shall have water shedding properties.
Dimensions. The padding shall have a minimum length of 3.9 yards. Size 1 shall have a minimum width of 1.9 inches. Size 2 shall have a minimum width of 2.9 inches. Size 3 shall have a minimum width of 3.9 inches. Size 4 shall have a minimum width of 5.9 inches. Thickness of the padding shall be from 0.060 to 0.070 inches.
Weight. The padding shall weight from 2.85 to 3.15 ounces per square yard.
Breaking strength. Breaking strength of the padding shall be at least 0.50 lbs. per inch of padding width, when tested as specified below.
