COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ADHESIVE TAPE, SURGICAL (PERFORATED)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a Surgical Adhesive Tape, suitable for use in securing IV’s, Catheters and Tubing.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be transparent, adhesive, plastic tape, 1 inch wide by 5 yards long, coated on one side with a pressure sensitive adhesive which shall be non-irritating to the skin. The tape shall be wound on a core.
Shall be moisture resistant and conform to irregular body contours.
Shall be perforated and the perforations shall be uniform and cleanly made.
Shall tear neatly and evenly in both directions.
Testing for adhesive strength shall be in conformance with ASTM D 3330, Standard Test Method A for Peel Adhesion of Pressure-Sensitive Tape at 180o Angle, with the following exceptions:
The test panel to which the specimen tapes are affixed shall be glass instead of stainless steel. The glass test panel shall be cleaned with Acetone instead of Diacetone Alcohol, non-residual and the panel shall not be further washed with one of the solvents listed in 6.2.2.
The mechanically operated roller shall have a mass of 10 +/- 0.1 lbs. The adhesive strength when tested by this method shall be from 8 to 40 ounces per inch.
